Update: MCS 2.0 – Smaller File, Lower Price

(***Updated: Now that I’m comfortable with the direction of the MCS 2.0 project, I will be putting the original Smash Golf Video back up for download, at a reduced price.)

After some hard thinking, tinkering and way too much stress, I have made a decision regarding the MCS 2.0 video downloads.  Digital technology is a two-edged sword, and I quickly discovered while editing my tutorial portion video that it was going to be impossible to offer hi-res video for download.

Last year’s Smash Golf download file was less than 200 Mb in size, and that was still a large enough file that it gave many people issues with downloading it on their end.  I realized that a one-hour video of hi-res quality was going to reach several Gigabytes in size!!

I know that many people have super-hi speed internet and powerful enough computers to stream or download a file this size, but I’m pretty sure that many people won’t, and I’m trying to reach the most people with the most cost-effective way of providing a download video.

This is why I’m also only offering one file format, compatible to PC, over Apple.  I know that the overwhelming majority of people or PC users, and to be honest, all of the Apple people I know have the software to watch wmv files.  Plus, I have a PC and that’s what I’m using to make this video.

Not to mention (importantly for me), the cost of hosting a several Gb file for download would run me ten times what it cost me to host the original MCS video for download.  There’s no way I could do that without raising the price of the video much, much higher than I feel comfortable asking for it.

Below, I have a test clip of what you’ll be getting in video quality with download version of the MCS 2.0 video.  It should run about an hour, from my initial editing impression, and run between 500-700 Mb in size, and which I’m lowing from $49.95 CAD to $39.95 CAD.

I’ve made the trade-off as well, to go with as hi-res as possible with the actual swing clips at the expense of the tutorial video quality, because of the file size limitations.

That is a good deal larger file size than the original MCS, and it’s about as large as I can go before my costs start to sky-rocket.  But I promise, whatever the reduction in resolution from the initial intent, I think the video content itself will be much, much better than the original Smash Golf MCS video.

I have put the MCS 2.0 DVD’s on hold until I have heard from the people who have pre-ordered or requested to pre-order them, due to having run into technical issues with the file sizes.  Below, I have a test clip of what one can expect if ordering the DVD, which I’ve also reduced in price from $49.95 CAD to $39.95 CAD (plus the $16.95 S&H).

Again, I’m limited by my software, my computer and the fact that I’m doing this in my spare time. In my best Scottie voice, I’d say “I’m not a movie producer, Jim…” O.K., enough with the Star Trek references.

Hi DJ…I’m new here but have been a fan of MA for a long time…and I’ve had your original mcs for a year now…my question…from down the line, MA’s swing plane definitely appears to be inside out and angled several degrees to the right where yours is much more square…actually the clip with MA swinging his flammer definitely really shows this to be the case…what say you? Hi Joel, thanks for commenting!

      As to your observation, there could be one of several explanations;

1- I have mild scoliosis and so it’s possible that I just can’t get into the same impact position that Austin or someone with no spine curvature would be able to get into. I have a little more erect impact position than Austin did, he really got that right elbow into the side coming through impact, whereas my right arm begins to separate an instant before impact, or
2- The fact that I have always been a fader and not a drawer. When I tried to play draws, I developed a nasty hook that haunted me to the point that I hardly ever try to swing inside-out, preferring to swing inside-square-inside, or
3- Equipment – Austin had very heavy, old-era clubs with heavier than usual swing-weights, and it’s possible that the lighter, longer-shafted equipment we use today requires a slightly different angle coming into impact than with the old stuff, or
4- It could simply be a slight difference of camera angle causing that optical effect.

Other than the above, I would have no other theory as to the reason.

thanks for the quick reply…we often forget that we all have different biomechanics and different biomechanical handicaps…whereas your club starts moving left soon after impact, ma’s club seems to move gently out and then curve inward and strongly upward and is seen between his left shoulder and neck before his torso fully turns and he finishes in the classic ma finished position…and he never rotates his torso past facing the target as opposed to tiger, rory et al who almost face 90* left of the target…joel waldman

My wife works at a New Age bookstore and every Tuesday and they have a psychic come in who channels departed spirits. I am thinking about settling this question once and for all of how much you do or don’t follow Mike Austin or exactly what his opinion and ideas are of what you have done by asking Mike Austin himself straight up via the medium. Will probably ask Ben Hogan to sit in too and together they discuss their highly evolved theories of the golf swing.

as long the ball always goes straight, and you are able to control the spin, dosnt matter if there is a difference. Just beacuse MA did it a particular way dosnt mean you should copy him straight up.

Modern swing you must rotate the torso or else they loose power.
they removed the athletic portion of the swing (PGA style) due to they did believe that accuracy that way is the way to handle pressure in majors.
