KZG PFT300 Returns!

One of my regular blog readers this week has sent me a KZG PFT/300 driver.  I just picked it up from the UPS office (many thanks, JH!! :-) ), and will be hitting it sometime on the weekend.

Anyone who has followed the Smash Golf blog previous to this one would already know that the driver I used to set all of my personal driving marks back in ’09 was a KZG PFT/300, so you know the source of my enthusiasm here.

There are a few differences in this driver from the one I used a few years ago, that I think I’m really going to love.  First, it’s got a steel shaft (DG S300 flex).  Second, it’s only 44″ long (wasn’t I just musing about the modern drivers possibly being too long or longer than needed), and third, it’s 7.5 degrees in loft instead of the 9 degree driver I had.

With the shorter shaft, and one that’s steel instead of graphite, this driver feels like a hammer.  Although I used my previous KZG to great effect, it was a little long for my tastes and felt very whippy, due to the regular flex.  It took a very smooth swing and slow transition to hit it, because when I went after it hard, the shaft was uncontrollable and I’d hit it anywhere.

So, between the swing change I’m making and taking some cracks with this KZG, I’m excited to see how this driver will play!

I had no complaints with the 9 degree, actually, JH, except for the fact that of course I would hit the ball too high when I tried to sweep it off the tee. I kind of had to hit slightly down into my drives with the 9 degree, but with the 7.5, I should be able to hit up on it and not have it balloon on me.

Rain and gloom forecast all weekend, but I hope to get out and try it at the range before Monday! :-)
