There is something that I haven’t been able to understand from the time I began to become more knowledgeable about golf in general and swings – why is it that Ben Hogan is held up as a paragon of technical excellence when Jack Nicklaus was by far the better golfer, both in physical talent and ball-striking (power and accuracy combined vs just one or the other, otherwise you could argue that Moe Norman and John Daly were better than Hogan by simply being longer or straighter as a single measured quantity)??

Jack Nicklaus’ Swing At 15…
Thanks to Seb for finding and pointing out this clip in the previous Tiger/Nicklaus posting’s comments section.
There’s not much to say about this swing that I didn’t already say in responding to Seb. This swing is just about flawless, and no wonder Nicklaus was pounding it past everyone else in his day.
Why Nicklaus Beats Tiger For Now…
(Note: This is a fun discussion about Jack vs Tiger. Please keep all of the stuff about Tiger’s personal life out of it, we’re talking about golf, people, this isn’t TMZ. And any abusive comments will be deleted, trust me)
There has been more discussion about whether Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods is the “Greatest of All Time” than any other comparison, excluding perhaps the “Nicklaus vs Hogan” debate of the ’70s and ’80s eras. In this situation, you are usually left with personal preference at the end of it all, but I’ll tell you why I take Nicklaus over Woods for the time being.
